Tackling ‘Fake News’

Today, the European Commission has proposed changes to help reduce the spread of misinformation and thus protecting small businesses that enter the digital economy. Negotiations are timely, given recent suggestions of false advertising on facebook.

In brief, the following measures will have three specific targets: 1) combating the spread of misinformation; 2) the creation of an independent European network of bodies to verify the factual accuracy of data; and to 3) strengthen media literacy and other appropriate steps.
