Lincolnshire Day #EDICLincs

Europe Direct East Midlands North were delighted to host two events in Lincolnshire on the 21st June.

In the morning, a drop-in session was held at the Len Medlock Centre in Boston. Often considered as the most ‘Pro-Brexit’ location in Britain, it was essential to gauge some of the issues and concerns facing the town, appreciating its socio-demographic diversity. This was followed by an afternoon briefing event in Sleaford, where Christopher Benn, a senior immigration solicitor from the London-based firm Seraphus, gave an insight into the updated settlement scheme which was, in fact, published that same morning!

A multitude of organisations and agencies were represented across the duration of the day. Representatives from Boston College, LincolnshireCVS, Centrepoint Outreach, Poverty Concern, Lincolnshire Housing Partnership and Citizens Advice were all in attendance. These had travelled from locations across the broader vicinity of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, including Boston, East Lindsey, Grantham and Newark.

The key message was to inform support networks of the government’s Settlement Scheme, subsequently helping EU communities and individuals to prepare and complete the application once the system goes live.

Read the Home Office’s statement of intent, published on the 21st June 2018. Moreover, GOV.UK released a short summary of the settlement scheme changes.

Catch up on the day’s proceedings on Twitter via the hashtag #EDICLincs. We look forward to attending future community events across Lincolnshire, and if you would like a representative from Europe Direct to attend one of your local events across East Midlands North, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
