‘On 7 November 2018 the Commission will launch a call for applications for the scheme ‘WiFi4EU‘. The call enables municipalities to set up a Wi-Fi hotspot in public spaces, including town halls, public libraries, museums, public parks or squares. WiFi4EU-funded networks will be free of charge, free of advertising and free of personal data harvesting.’ (Europa.EU 2018).
The budget for this particular initiative is from 2018-2020, thus funding the free Wi-Fi spaces will continue to be implemented throughout the UK-EU transition period up until the 31st December, 2020.
It is open to:
- – Municipalities
- – Associations formed by Municipalities acting on behalf of their members
Importantly, “WiFi4EU” as an example of EU benefits for those who do not necessarily move.
